FLACS prides itself on its literacy curriculum and aims to develop skillful readers that read with ease, comprehend the reading material, and critically assess the content. FLACS uses a balanced literacy model to develop competent students. The balanced approach gives students multiple levels of support that are steadily removed as students become independent, skilled readers. FLACS’ literacy program provides indicators to determine when students have grasped a skill. For students needing additional support in developing literacy skills, FLACS offers the reading intervention programs of: Reading Rescue, and Reading Excellence And Discovery (READ).
